The Harbour Trust has signed its first Community Partnership Agreement. Partnerships with the community demonstrate the Trust’s commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. It is envisaged that the Trust will move significantly towards partnership arrangements with community groups and not-for-profit organisations in the future.

This first partnership agreement has been signed with the North Head Sanctuary Foundation (NHSF). Both the Harbour Trust and NHSF share a common vision to create a sanctuary for both people and for wildlife at North Head.

The key objective of this community partnership is to undertake projects which support the establishment and operation of the North Head Sanctuary and which neither party could undertake alone.

Native Plant Nursery

The first project to be undertaken through the partnership is the commencement of a Native Plant Nursery. The nursery will be managed and operated by the North Head Sanctuary Foundation on a volunteer basis.

The primary objective is to propagate plant species that are indigenous to North Head, targeting the endangered population of Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub, for use in restoration and site rehabilitation. Initially this will occur on the Harbour Trust's site, and will gradually extend to other sites, both public and private across North Head.  Nursery construction is now complete and seed collected and propagation has commenced.

The second objective of the partnership is community outreach and education to raise awareness about the importance of North Head's bushland, including the Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub and how to protect this endangered ecological community.

The education room is open every weekend from 10am to 4pm.
