Sydney Harbour Federation Trust

The Trust

Harbour Trust Office, Georges Heights

In 2001 Sydney Harbour Federation Trust was established as a statutory body under the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Act to manage unique lands on Sydney Harbour being returned to the people. These former Defence and other special Commonwealth lands had been hidden away from the community for many years.

The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust is an Australian Government agency within the Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities portfolio. The Australian Government has introduced legislation to extend the term of the Trust from 2011 to 2033.

The vision of the Harbour Trust is "to provide a lasting legacy for the people of Australia by helping to create the finest foreshore park in the world and provide places that will greatly enrich the cultural life of the city and nation".
