North Head Sanctuary - Secondary

Bushland at North HeadPristine natural bushland is the setting for the trial excursions at North Head Sanctuary.

This brand new excursion program is designed for the Stage 6 Geography Preliminary Course for the Biophysical Interactions topic.

The full-day (5-hour) excursions are facilitated by the Harbour Trust’s team of Teacher Guides (qualified teachers). Students will work cooperatively in small groups of up to 12 students to complete a series of fieldwork experiments including basic orienteering, weather observations, plant and animal identification, soil sampling, mapping and sketching activities and observe how humans interact with the environment.

Specifically-designed field work guides have been prepared by the Harbour Trust. These guides will allow students to use problem-solving and mapping skills to orient themselves around the site and to undertake the fieldwork experiments at various stations set-up outdoors in the Sanctuary area. All equipment is provided.

As North Head Sanctuary has only recently opened to the public, these excursions offer a unique opportunity for students to visit this remarkable site.
