Harbour Trust: Education

School Excursions

School students aboard ferry to Cockatoo IslandExplore unique sites around Sydney Harbour - book a Harbour Trust School Excursion.

The Harbour Trust sites present rich educational opportunities for a wide range of age groups and Key Learning Areas (KLAs). School education programs aim to encourage a sense of ownership and appreciation of the sites to a young audience.

For local students or those visiting from country areas, the appeal of these unique sites is unrivalled in the Sydney region. The lure of Sydney Harbour’s spectacular scenery captivates students and teachers alike, and the tales of early Sydney’s maritime, military and industrial past provide an inimitable study. The work of the Harbour Trust offers a management perspective and an insight into the challenging task of rehabilitating and conserving these sites for public access, following decades of military or industrial occupation.

Curriculum-aligned excursions are currently offered at Cockatoo Island and North Head Sanctuary; and resource materials for teachers have been developed to complement these visits.

The Harbour Trust plans to design excursions for other Harbour Trust sites in due course.
