Former School of Artillery, North Head: Future Plans

Planning the Future

A Vision for the Future of the former School of Artillery

The vision for North Head is to create an environmental sanctuary, where:

  • native wildlife, habitats, and plant communities are managed in a sustainable way by all landholders;
  • endangered species are protected and conserved and feral animals managed effectively;
  • native species may be carefully re-introduced.

The Plan proposes bringing to life the ceremonial past, Aboriginal and military, of the former School of Artillery.

Within a regenerated bushland setting, a network of paths will connect the various precincts - School of Artillery, Royal Australian Artillery National Museum, Quarantine Station and cemeteries.

Buildings and facilities on the site of the School of Artillery will be adapted for a range of activities related to the sanctuary including education, health, recreation, convalescence, conferences, functions and events.
