Visit Our Sites
Our eight harbour sites are great places to visit. Linked by Sydney's famous waterway, they are all unique: a sanctuary of pristine bushland, a maritime village, a convict prison and shipyard, a 100-year old dock, a historic seaside cottage, a tiny island and a landmark lighthouse.
These Harbour Trust lands hold great significance. They tell us about Sydney's history and have been recognised for their value to the nation's heritage.
The lands are:
- Headland Park, a collection of former defence lands at Middle Head, Georges Heights and Chowder Bay
- Cockatoo Island
- North Head Sanctuary, the former School of Artillery on North Head
- Woolwich Dock and Parklands
- Macquarie Lightstation, Vaucluse
- Former Marine Biological Station, Watsons Bay
- Snapper Island
- Former HMAS Platypus, Neutral Bay
Today most of these sites are open to the public, after restricted access for most of European settlement. They have been returned to the Australian people to enjoy their bushland settings, historic buildings, fortifications, industrial precincts and views of the harbour.
