Kayak infrastructure at Sub Base Platypus

The Harbour Trust has been successful in its application for grant funding for the construction of new kayak infrastructure at Sub Base Platypus in North Sydney.

Funding of $176,678 has been awarded under Transport for NSW’s Boating Infrastructure for Communities program, representing a co-contribution of 50% towards the project cost.

The project will involve the construction of a floating pontoon with capacity for approximately 5 kayaks to tether for short stays. The pontoon will be attached to an existing timber wharf at the northern end of Sub Base Platypus, accessed by ladder due to the significant level difference between the wharf deck and waterway.

The pontoon will facilitate day trips by kayakers to Sub Base Platypus, enhancing the community's ability to use and enjoy Sydney Harbour.

Over the coming months the Harbour Trust will begin planning, including an approach to how we can consult with the local kayaking community. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2027 – more information will be provided as it becomes available.
