The Harbour Trust is responsible for 9 places around the harbour including Cockatoo Island / Wareamah, North Head Sanctuary in Manly, Sub Base Platypus in North Sydney, Headland Park in Mosman, Macquarie Lightstation in Vaucluse, Woolwich Dock and Parklands, and Marine Biological Station at Camp Cove. These extraordinary places managed by the Harbour Trust have both national and international significance and are highly valued by the local community and Australians nationwide. Some sites carry Commonwealth, National, and World Heritage listings and feature heritage structures and other significant remnants from the nation’s colonial era, military history and industrial past.
These lands are First Nations Country, and we acknowledge the long history of custodianship exercised by First Nations peoples and their continued connection to Country. Located in and around Sydney Harbour, our sites are places of natural beauty containing examples of Australia’s unique and endangered native flora and fauna.
Committee members will represent a range of community interests and perspectives, and aid in providing input into the various ways the Harbour Trust engages with key stakeholders in the management of its sites. The Harbour Trust is seeking a diverse, representative set of volunteer community advisers from Greater Sydney – and Australia – to join the committee. If you’re someone who cares about the sustained protection of important Harbour sites and contributing to their continued access and activation for all Australians, we encourage you to apply.
