The Harbour Trust continues to follow directions from the NSW Government to ensure our operations are in line with the latest advice on coronavirus.

This page provides updates on the current status of our visitor destinations as well as the steps we are taking to ensure the health and safety of visitors and remain connected with the community.

    Our visitor destinationsarrow
  • General: Headland Park (Mosman), North Head Sanctuary (Manly), Sub Base Platypus (North Sydney), Cockatoo Island (Sydney Harbour), Woolwich Dock and Parklands, and the grounds of Macquarie Lightstation (Vaucluse) remain open to the public. 

    Food and beverage: Further, the cafés and restaurants, across our heritage sites on Sydney Harbour, are trading. Ahead of your trip, please check the website or social media channels the venue you are planning to visit for further details, including trading hours.

    Visitor centres: We require visitors to scan a QR code and complete a COVID Safe check-in with Service NSW before entering our visitor centres at Cockatoo Island and North Head sanctuary. 

    Tours, programs and tennisarrow
    • Tours: Our regular program of guided tours runs Friday to Saturday. Guided tour are also available for group bookings. As a registered COVID Safe business, we require tourgoers to scan a QR code upon arrival to complete a COVID Safe check-in with Service NSW. 
    • Education programs: We are currently accepting bookings for school excursions to Cockatoo Island. Our primary and high school programs support several key syllabus areas of the NSW Curriculum and are an opportunity for students to enjoy an interactive learning experience at one of Sydney’s most historic destinations. Unable to visit Cockatoo Island with your class? Don’t worry – we’ve transformed our popular primary school program, Convict Times, into an immersive virtual excursion.
    • All tourgoers and school group members must ensure they:
      • maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres from others, wherever possible;
      • have not attended a known hot spot
      • have not had contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case within the last 14 days; and
      • are not unwell and have not had any COVID-19 symptoms in the last 14 days.
    • Tennis courts: The Harbour Trust Tennis Courts at Georges Heights and Middle Head are open for court hire and private lessons. Players are required to follow Tennis Australia's COVID-19 Community Tennis Guidelines. Please ensure you are familiar with them ahead of your game
    Visitor health and safetyarrow
    • Visitor guidelines: If you are planning to visit any of our heritage destinations, please remember to follow rules around social distancing, and basic hygiene. Ahead of your trip, check the NSW Health website (nsw.gov.au/covid-19) for updates and guidance. If you are feeling unwell, postpone your visit and seek medical advice.
    • Cleaning protocols: We have established enhanced cleaning protocols with respect to public facilities across our sites. 
    Digital experiencesarrow
  • We have launched four online initiatives to help visitors – and the wider Australian community – to stay connected with extraordinary places on Sydney Harbour.

    • Virtual Excursion: Convict Times is an immersive online history lesson that transports students (Kindergarten to Year 4) to Cockatoo Island’s convict era. It has been designed to activate children’s imaginations and encourage them to use primary and secondary sources. Register your class for this self-paced excursion today.
    • DigiTalks: Running select Wednesdays, DigiTalks is a series of online talks, virtual tours and webinars that offer attendees rich insights about our heritage destinations as well as Sydney Harbour.
    • DigiTales: This series of articles, by our team of volunteers, acquaints readers with historical figures synonymous with our heritage places on Sydney Harbour. They also capture the distinctive voices of our passionate and knowledgeable volunteers. Above all else, DigiTales are intended as entertaining yarns. We hope you enjoy them!
    • Kids Corner: Kids Corner features fun activity sheets and project ideas designed to keep kids engaged and happy, whether they’re at home, in the backyard or stretching their legs outside.
