COVID-19 updates: Cockatoo Island has reopened and more

UPDATE (11 October)

The information on this page has been amended to reflect the latest advice from the NSW Government, including their roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions. The health and safety of visitors remains paramount. As such, we continue to follow directions and advice from the State Government.


    Visitor destinations (general)arrow
    • Visitor centres: Our volunteer-run visitor centres at Cockatoo Island and North Head Sanctuary remain closed until further notice.

    • Cockatoo Island: We are very pleased to welcome visitors back to Cockatoo Island from 11 October. In line with the NSW Government’s roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions, eligible people can now travel to the island. Our popular cafes – Societe Overboard and Marina Café & Bar – will resume serving visitors from 14 and 15 October respectively. PLUS: We are now accepting bookings for accommodation, with availabilities from Friday 15 October. Our program of guided tours remains suspended; however, we look forward to offering these popular experiences again soon.     • Other destinations: Headland Park (Mosman), North Head Sanctuary (Manly), Sub Base Platypus (North Sydney), Woolwich Dock and Parklands, and the grounds of Macquarie Lightstation (Vaucluse) remain open to the public. For details about cafés and restaurants, see the ‘Food and beverage venues’ section below.  

    • Visitor health and safety: We have established enhanced cleaning protocols with respect to available public facilities at our destinations. Visitors to our sites are required to comply with NSW Government restrictions and must follow rules around social distancing and basic hygiene. If you are feeling unwell, please do not visit any of our sites. 


    Tours, programs and tennisarrow
    • Tours: Our program of guided tours at Cockatoo Island will recommence in the coming months. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and subscribe to our e-newsletter, to receive updates as they become available. Our volunteer-run tours at Headland Park and North Head sanctuary remain suspended; however, we look forward to offering these popular experiences again soon. 
    • Tennis courts: Our tennis court at Middle Head is again available for court-hire at a cost of $22 per hour. Players are required to comply with the NSW Government’s COVID-19 rules as well as the latest guidance from Tennis Australia. Additionally, we require players to complete a COVID Safe check-in upon arrival at the court and check-out following their match. Our tennis court at Georges Heights is closed until further notice for repairs and maintenance work.

    • Volunteers: Our volunteer program, including volunteer-led tours, are suspended until further notice. 
    • Tenants: For information about our tenants, including the food and beverage operators across our sites, please head to our tenant directory and contact the businesses directly.
