The Harbour Trust Heritage Register comprises 7 main sites around Sydney Harbour managed by the Harbour Trust. The heritage significance of these sites is recognised by one World Heritage listed place, 2 National Heritage listed places and 34 Commonwealth Heritage listed places on behalf of the Australian Government.

These places are identified by the Australian Minister for the Environment as having World, National or Commonwealth Heritage values. Heritage values are the aspects of a place that give it special meaning or make it important to the community.

The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the EPBC Act) protects all kinds of heritage values from potential impacts that might damage or destroy those values. It also provides a national assessment and listing process for inclusion of places on the Commonwealth and National Heritage lists. The Harbour Trust has a responsibility under this legislation to ensure our heritage places are maintained, protected and conserved.

For each of these World, Commonwealth and National Heritage listed places, the Harbour Trust has prepared a Management Plan and a Conservation Management Plan, which together provide a heritage assessment to help guide day-to-day maintenance, potential changes to a place, and protection measures. Management Plans are our road map to ensure places are kept in good condition and are safeguarded for the future. Management Plans are supported by the Conservation Management Plans, which provide detailed expert assessments and policy guidance.

First Nations, Archaeological sites and Landscape items may not be listed here. Contact the Harbour Trust for information on leases, maintenance and other property information.
