The Harbour Trust submission, formally endorsed by the Members of the Harbour Trust, provides key recommendations that will assist in alleviating the current shortfalls faced by the Harbour Trust and in fulfilling its mission.
The Harbour Trust was established in 2001 as a result of community and Government coming together to protect Sydney Harbour's iconic lands and open them for public access.
Since that time, the Harbour Trust has made considerable progress in implementing the shared vision for its sites such as Cockatoo Island, Headland Park in Mosman, Sub Base Platypus in North Sydney and North Head in Manly. However, recent financial headwinds and legislative uncertainty facing the Harbour Trust present significant risk to its ability to achieve and maintain the shared vision that is at the foundation of Harbour Trust work.
An Independent Review of the Harbour Trust – the first since the agency commenced – was announced by the Minister for Environment, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, in October 2019.
As part of this process, the Independent Reviewers – former Secretary of Planning for NSW, Ms Carolyn McNally and former Executive Director of Infrastructure NSW, Ms Erin Flaherty – invited written submissions from the Australian community and have led a series of public forums.
The next public forum will be held on Tuesday 18 February from 6pm to 8pm at the SMC Conference & Function Centre, 66 Goulburn St, Sydney. To register to attend, visit environment.gov.au/about-us/shft-independent-review
