This special experience is presented by the Harbour Trust in partnership with Anderson Environment and Planning (AEP), the wildlife managers of North Head Sanctuary. Across an hour, AEP will reveal the vital ecological role played by North Head’s wildlife as well as ongoing efforts to ensure the local population is healthy and vibrant.
They will also share the steps taken by the Harbour Trust to reintroduce locally extinct species – notably, the eastern pygmy possum, brown antechinus and bush rat. The area is also a refuge for echidnas, reptiles, frogs, insects, 148 bird species and an endangered population of long-nosed bandicoots.
As you gain insights into how conservationists study wildlife in the field, you may be lucky enough encounter some of these creatures! Plus, keep your eyes peeled for evidence of North Head’s mostly nocturnal mammals – for example, diggings, tracks and tree hollows.
