Available roles

Our volunteer roles cater for different ages, skillsets and interests. We are currently seeking volunteers for the following positions.

Visitor services volunteer

We're seeking visitor services volunteers to help deliver a great visitor experience at Cockatoo Island and/or North Head Sanctuary. Successful candidates will welcome visitors, offer directions and historical information, sell merchandise and tour tickets, and promote current attractions. Volunteers are rostered in pairs and are stationed at either our Cockatoo Island or North Head Sanctuary visitor centres, both of which operate daily. Volunteers are usually rostered one day per fortnight; however, this is negotiable. We particularly require volunteers to work weekends. If you are a “people person” – and have an interest in local history and (in the case of North Head Sanctuary) wildlife – we'd love to hear from you.

Volunteer tour guide (Headland Park)

Featuring gun emplacements, underground tunnels and other military relics dating back to the 1870s, Georges Heights at Headland Park, Mosman once played a crucial role in the defence of Sydney Harbour. The Harbour Trust is seeking volunteers to lead visitors on guided tours of Headland Park, Mosman (See:Tunnels and Gunners Tour). An ideal candidate would have a keen interest in military history, a strong grasp of the subject matter and the confidence to take questions as they guide people to (and through) key landmarks including the heritage gun emplacements.
