    How you had your sayarrow
  • Between 1 May and 11 June 2021, the community was invited to have their say on the Draft Concept. Opportunities to provide feedback and learn more about the Draft Concept included an online survey, a walkshop, a series of virtual workshops, a webinar and pop-up community feedback sessions. Additionally, the First Nations Community were invited to take a survey, participate in a one-on-one interview and attend a yarning session.

    What you told usarrow
  • Clear and common themes emerged from our conversations about the future of North Head Sanctuary.

Overwhelmingly, feedback called for the natural fauna and flora to be prioritised, ensuring its protection. We heard people want to be able to come to North Head Sanctuary and walk through nature. We heard people want a space for refuge and sanctuary, whether to reflect on the stories of your ancestors or merely to enjoy the peace nature provides.

The community highly values our First Nations Peoples' heritage and wish to celebrate Country and Culture. First Nations Peoples asked us to restore and heal Car-rang-gel and acknowledge this location as a significant Aboriginal ceremonial place, a scared Bora site. They want to see First Nations Peoples continuing to practice ceremony and inviting the broader community to participate and experience the power of Country.

Not only is North Head Sanctuary a natural and First Nations significant location, it also hosts important military history. We heard people want to be able to come to North Head Sanctuary and learn about that history and all it entails. The ability to visit it the School of Artillery, the barracks, and see the military installations and underground tunnels.

Importantly, our community asked us to aim for the right balance and respectful integration of the environment, First Nations’ heritage and military past.
